Support for Diane Abbott
At the meeting of the Bath East, North and West Branch on 12th June 2017, Sheila Barton proposed the following motion in support of Dianne Abbott, it was passed unanimously, with one abstention:
"The Bath East, North and West Branch deplores the racist attacks perpetrated by the media on Diane Abbott MP during the general election. It sends her best wishes for a speedy recovery and salutes her for her many years of loyal service to her constituency and to the Labour Party"
We have today received a reply from Diane Abbot:
"Thank you for your kind words. The support and advice I have received has been incredible.
The Conservative Party ran a campaign characterised by the politics of personal destruction. They completely underestimated the British public’s ability to see past this. We must never feed the misogynist online culture that intends to silence the voice of strong women and ethnic minorities in public life.
Labour fought a positive campaign addressing the issues that matter the most to people, and we have been vindicated.
30 years ago, this week, I became an MP to be the change I wanted to see. Despite personal attacks and online abuse, I will continue.
I hope I can count on your personal support and your support for the Labour party as we continue to fight for a Government that represents the many and not the few.
