B&NES Job losses

B&NES Council have announced the loss of 300 council jobs. This cut would not havebeen necessary under a Labour Government. The 2017, fully costed, Manifeso ensures local government has sustainable funding for the long term. 80% of council funding is spent on Health and Social care, the Manifesto also pedges to spend an additional £7.9 billion on Health and Social Care.

Joe Rayment,Debuty Leader of the Labour Group on the Council had this to say:
“These proposed job losses, if carried through, will be a tragedy for our area and for each of those 300 people. The fact is that Council staff are already overworked and underpaid, and many of our services are at breaking point. We cannot run good services for our residents with fewer staff and less money going into them.
“I also have huge sympathy for the thousands of Council staff who will be worried about their job security just before Christmas. I pray that this focuses the minds of some local councillors who will hopefully now decide that they can’t any longer be associated with this cruel and failing austerity regime.
"My message to Tim Warren is this: save these staff and disown your government. It is your responsibility and duty to stand up for this area and to do what is best for us, not to obediently follow instructions from Theresa May's feeble and fragile coalition of chaos."
